Use the lobby's Skill Tree menu and select your main weapon. Buy Attack for slow clears, Critical for a crit build, Defense when hits are killing you, or Speed when you cannot get into or out of range.

Attack, Critical, Defense, and Speed
The percentages show the listed stages of each branch. Do not add every stage together to calculate the equipped bonus. Read the selected node's cost and effect before buying it.
| Branch | Upgrade progression | What it supports |
|---|---|---|
| Attack | 15% → 25% → 40% → 60% | Direct damage |
| Critical | 3% → 6% → 10% → 15% | Critical-hit chance |
| Defense | 5% → 10% → 15% → 25% | Reduced incoming damage |
| Speed | 5% → 10% → 15% → 25% | Movement speed |
Which branch should you buy first?
Start with Attack if you survive the run but take too long to kill enemies.
Add Critical when your weapon, trait, and accessories already support critical hits. Look at your total critical chance first; buying more after reaching a cap will not give the same benefit.
Take Defense earlier if a hit regularly ends your attempt. Buy Speed when you need help reaching enemies or getting out of an attack. You do not need to level all four branches evenly.
Spending your next Skill Tokens
Keep the same weapon and difficulty for that run. Changing the whole loadout at once makes it harder to tell whether the new node helped.
- 01
Select the weapon you use for most of the run.
- 02
Read the next node's token cost.
- 03
Choose Attack or Critical for damage, Defense for survival, or Speed for movement.
- 04
Buy the node and replay an act you know.
- 05
After changing traits or accessories, look at your total stats before buying another node.
Each weapon has its own tree
A new weapon does not inherit your old main's upgrades. Leveling and using weapons provides tokens for their progression, so open the new weapon's entry before judging its damage.
Keep your upgraded main available while you work on a new pull. You can choose the pair in the build planner, but each weapon still needs its own Skill Tree upgrades in game.
Frequently asked questions
When does the Skill Tree unlock?+
It is available from the start through the lobby's Skill Tree option.
Should I max Attack first?+
Attack is the usual first choice for damage. Take Defense or Speed earlier if deaths or movement are stopping you from finishing runs.
Does one Skill Tree upgrade every weapon?+
No. Each weapon has its own tree. Open the new weapon's entry when you switch mains.
Why did a Critical upgrade make little difference?+
Look at your total critical chance and the current cap. Also try more attacks: a short run of lucky or unlucky crits can hide the change.
